Our Library and Resource Centre provides a social space to meet, collaborate, research, learn, share and relax. The staff work to develop a reading culture and raise the levels of information literacy across the school by leading students through processes which empower them to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers and skillful, efficient and discerning researchers.
Opening hours
Our school library is a precious and highly valued space.
A vibrant hub of learning, stories and exploration, the library provides a welcoming place to meet, collaborate, research, relax and improve information literacy.
It empowers students to be imaginative and critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and discerning researchers. Our library is a place where curiosity is nurtured.
Staff foster a culture where reading is encouraged and celebrated, and texts are deeply valued for their ability to help students understand themselves and their world. This ‘reading culture’ contributes positively to students’ intellectual, social, and emotional development.
Our students can access authentic, age-appropriate resources at any time through the Oliver library management system and ACEN digital library’s Sora app.
The Library and Resource Centre is open from 8.00am to 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday, and from 8.00am to 3.00pm on Friday.
Our collection
We offer our students and staff vibrant fiction and non-fiction collections, which reflect the breadth of the school curriculum and diverse student interests. Our vast array of resources includes print format books, eBooks, audiobooks, academic journals, magazines and an extensive video library.
Facilities
The main library space offers a variety of seating options and is available for class bookings. Senior students and staff can also book a seminar room when they require a quiet space to work alone or in a small group.
Student support
Student learning is enhanced by our dedicated library team, which works collaboratively with teachers to embed research skills across the curriculum. Students receive training in using online resources; learning skills tailored to their classroom tasks. Our Aspire Homework Club runs every Monday and Wednesday afternoon during term, giving junior students the valuable opportunity to receive learning support from our senior students.
Activities
Literacy activities throughout the year aim to spark our studentsβ interest in and love of literature. Annual celebrations include: Library and Information Week, Kidsβ Lit Quiz, Sydney Writers Festival and Book Week. These events extend on what our students are learning in their classroom-based literacy activities.
