Students at St Ursula’s College Kingsgrove students have lived up to their college motto ‘Serviam – I will serve’ by raising $12,600 through good deeds for the Cancer Council NSW.

They did this through their Girls’ Night In initiative, a passion project started by the school’s student leaders in 2019.

This year’s event was the best yet, attracting 500 people eager to dig deep in their pockets.

The school’s 2022 student leaders organised 30 market stalls, buskers, pink-themed activities and food where attendees could spend big for a great cause.

“Our ex-students who conceived the project would be thrilled to see what was achieved this year and know that the legacy they left is in good hands,” Mary Leask, Principal of St Ursula’s College, said.

“I am grateful for our inspirational student leaders, who act in service of others through all they do and who want to empower others to do the same.”

The school community also supports Caritas’ Project Compassion, St Vincent de Paul Society programs and mental health awareness initiative RUOK Day. Most recently it collected items for the Lismore Flood Appeal.

‘Service – be it fundraising, volunteering, mentoring, prayer or acting to better the lives of others in another way – is at the heart of what we teach. It is our faith in action” – Principal Mary Leask

Students lead with heart

St Ursula’s College Captain, Gemma Kannan, has been a passionate volunteer 1for her community since starting at the Catholic systemic girls’ secondary school.

“I am a big believer that ‘actions speak louder than words’, so I try my best to volunteer as much as I can while balancing school and hobbies,” Gemma said.

“Volunteering is such an important part of our world and is a way we can give back to society. If you are considering volunteering, I would encourage you to!” – College Captain, Gemma Kannan
