St Ursula’s students raised over $30,000 at a recent Walkathon to help build a primary school for children living in remote Cambodian villages.
The annual College Walkathon supports the grassroots work of the Ursuline Sisters in Cambodia, who are helping children Battambang province in north western Cambodia access education and reach their potential.
On the day, students walked over seven kilometres around the local Kingsgrove area to raise funds. The girls were a colourful sight; dressed as their favourite celebrities, in celebration of the theme ‘St Ursula’s got stars’.
Along with contributing to construction of the new school, the funds raised on the day will help employ a teacher/principal for the school. Once opened, it will also help the school provide meals for the children, purchase essential classroom furniture and teaching resources such as books, pencils and sporting equipment.
After the Walkathon, students and staff could buy a delicious lunch at market stalls run by Year 10 commerce students to raise additional funds for disadvantaged Cambodian children. The day ended with a concert in the Merici Centre where students and staff showcased their incredible gifts and talents to our community.
